Position Description

The Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. PA's or ARNP's are certified by examination of an approved certifying body. This individual works in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for assigned patients. The provision of care includes, but is not limited to: obtaining patient history, comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies. Monitors the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions. Makes appropriate referrals. Performs minor procedures as approved by the FL Board of Medical Examiners and supervising physicians. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required. The PA or ARNP demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education, safety and quality and research and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. Active in professional organizations and participates in community activities. Additional Requirements: In addition to the above requirements, must meet three to four of the following: *Spends at least 50% of days based at the hospital (operating room, rounds, service, or shift work) *Performs specialized procedure(s) *Has the ability to see patient consults (inpatient and outpatient) and post-operative and return visits independently at least 50% of days worked *Spends at least 10-15% of days as First Assist in surgery *Takes call-coverage assignments (Primary and/or inpatient/ED) *Provides Weekend/Holiday Service.

The Advanced Practice Providers (APPS) in ENT will have responsibilities in the outpatient clinic, hospital rounds, operating room and a rotating call coverage that includes weekends and nights. 

Qualifications:

Physician Assistant:
Must be a graduate of CAAHEP (Council on the Accreditations of Allied Health Education Programs) approved university program. NCCPA certification required. Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Florida.

Nurse Practitioner:
Master's degree in Nursing required. (If licensed prior to 1998, Master's degree not required by the State of Florida.) Must have current Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license or eligible to obtain Florida license. Certification by the ANCC in a specialty area required.

License or Certification:

Physician Assistant: NCCPA certification required. Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Florida. Nurse Practitioner: Current ARNP license to practice in the state of Florida required.  ANCC Specialty certification required. BLS certification required.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

Schedule: Full Time

Schedule Details:

Monday Friday; hours generally are 7:30 a.m.  5:30 p.m.; hours may start as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 6 p.m.; rotating night call required

Weekend Schedule:

This position will take call and be required to be available 24/7 when on call for a week at a time which includes weekend rounding, emergency and hospital consults as well as operating if needed. Call rotation will be every 6-7 weeks.
